Our school delivers the school week of 32.5 hours expected by the Government. The playground gate is open from 8:30am. All children are expected to be in school AND in class for registration by 8:45am at the latest. Parents drop children at the gate and do not come onto the playground in the morning (other than new parents, who can accompany their children to their outside classroom door for a few days). Any messages should be sent via the school office.

At the end of the day, the playground gate is opened at around 3:10pm ready for the end of lessons at 3:15pm and parents can normally collect their children from outside their classrooms. Please keep a sensible distance from the classrooms so that when we do let the children out, they can easily spot their adults! Parents are expected to be there to collect children at this time and must let us know if they are inadvertently held up.

If your child is going to arrive late or needs collecting early due to, for example, a medical appointment, please let the office know as soon as possible.

All children from Reception up to and including Year 5 must be collected by a grown up (or in some circumstances, a significantly older sibling). Please inform us of any changes to the normal collection routine. However, in Year 6 parents can give specific written consent for Y6 children to walk home on their own. Please note that Y6 children are not allowed to be responsible for collecting younger siblings from our school.

Absences

If your child is absent from school, please notify us each morning either via attendance@burghschool.org.uk or through the automated phone system on (01754) 810241. Please do not email any other school email address for this. Authorised reasons for absence include illness, family bereavement, medical appointments and also (subject to otherwise excellent attendance) time to participate in external high-level sporting training/events and performing arts examinations and performances.

There is no automatic entitlement in law to time off in school time. Since September 2013, schools have not been able to authorise any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Please be aware that a family holiday is not considered exceptional circumstances and may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority.

Persistent late arrivals will be challenged and, where necessary, reported to the Education Welfare Officer and may require the intervention of other outside agencies. All children are expected to be in school and in class for registration by 8:45am. The same applies for children who are persistently collected late, either at the end of the school day at 3:15pm or at the end of after-school clubs.

Unauthorised holidays and absence or persistent late arrival can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority in respect of this.

Car Parking

To encourage healthier lifestyles for our children and their families we actively encourage walking and cycling to school wherever possible.

Facilities for car parking are extremely limited. Parents must not drop off or collect children in the school car park or access road at the start and end of the day (including after clubs) unless permission has specifically been given by the Headteacher.

For those who do have to bring children to school in the car, please park responsibly, avoiding the bus stop and the zig zags. Also, remember to show consideration for local residents when parking and avoid blocking driveways and parking on grass verges.

Accessibility

Our school building is on two levels which are accessible via our disabled lift. Corridors and outside walkways are wide and we also have an easy access disabled toilet with an emergency pull cord.

We have accessible disabled parking in the car park and all ramps and walkways are compliant with current legislation.

If you have any questions regarding accessibly arrangements for children or parents, please get in touch via the school office.
